Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers are excited to announce the release of Bloom: 10 Worlds, an enhanced and expanded edition of the groundbreaking original Bloom app from 2008. This app revolutionized the world of applications and was hailed as "The First Great iPhone App" by Gizmodo.

Designed for users of any age and skill level, Bloom is an inclusive and user-friendly app that allows anyone to create music simply by touching the screen. Acting as a musical instrument, composition tool, and artwork, Bloom's innovative controls enable users to create intricate patterns and unique melodies with a single tap. When left idle, a generative music player takes over, generating an infinite variety of compositions accompanied by captivating visualizations.

Bloom: 10 Worlds presents a reimagined version of the original app, going beyond a simple remaster. If the original Bloom can be likened to a single, this new edition is more like an album. With an expanded range of sounds and images, users can explore 10 new "worlds," each offering a fresh direction for Bloom. The first world resembles the original app, with circles appearing where the screen is tapped. Subsequent worlds are unlocked automatically, introducing new combinations of sounds, shapes, colors, and behavioral rules.

Praise for the original Bloom:

  • “The very first iPhone apps were universally dull. And then Bloom came out. It was immediately obvious that something special was happening. The app was interesting on an artistic level – one that made you reconsider the relationship between technology and music. It raised the bar for musical iPhone apps.” - Gizmodo
  • “Hypnotic and ludicrously addictive.” - The Guardian
  • “A relaxing alternative to just about anything else you can do with an iPhone.” - Wired

Eno and Chilvers first collaborated on the computer game Spore, developed by Will Wright. Their shared passion for generative music led them to create a prototype for Bloom in 2008. Over the past decade, they have continued to experiment in this field, expanding their collection of apps with Trope, Scape, and Reflection. Chilvers has also served as an engineer and technical advisor to Eno on various projects. Their exploration of multi-speaker installations laid the foundation for 2016's The Ship, and in 2018 they premiered Bloom: Open Space, a mixed-reality installation in Amsterdam.

In addition to his work with Eno, Chilvers co-founded the Burning Shed label and online store, toured as keyboardist and musical director with Underworld's Karl Hyde, and has released instrumental albums and collaborations with vocalist Tim Bowness.
